Scaling secure systems for a fast-growing, acquisition-driven agency

As Brainlabs grew through strategic acquisitions, they needed a way to integrate new businesses quickly and securely into the Brainlabs family — while maturing their own workplace infrastructure at the same pace.

“Acquisitions are a big part of our growth,” explains Poppy Bryanton, Integration Manager at Brainlabs. “We wanted to seamlessly integrate new teams, systems, and software, while improving the maturity of our internal technology and processes too.”

Brainlabs first engaged LeftBrain for a one-off project supporting around 300 users. Two years later, we now provide global security consultancy and workplace technology support for a growing team of over 800 people across offices and remote locations worldwide.

Brainlabs needed systems that would balance client-driven security demands — such as ISO 27001 expectations — with the need for user flexibility and high performance.

LeftBrain designed and implemented a secure, scalable environment, introducing cloud-based identity management, zero-touch deployment capabilities, and next-generation endpoint protection across the business.

“What stood out to us about LeftBrain was that they could offer bespoke tech solutions that were right for our processes, our users and our clients. We spoke to various other IT providers, but they offered a one-size-fits-all approach.”

Tactical: Zero-touch onboarding, Zero Trust security, and global support

We rolled out a highly customised mobile device management (MDM) system allowing for zero-touch deployment of apps and settings. New joiners now receive a laptop ready to go straight out of the box, saving time and reducing operational overhead.

We also implemented a Zero Trust Network Access solution for contractors, next-generation anti-virus tools, and secure identity controls across cloud systems.

“Since working with LeftBrain, our onboarding process has become considerably faster,” explains Poppy. “We used to manually set up 30 laptops at a time, each taking up to 45 minutes. Now with zero-touch deployment, we often just hand a new starter their laptop in a box. It has saved me a lot of time (and my sanity!)”

Today, Brainlabs have developed their own internal helpdesk, with LeftBrain continuing to provide high-level security consultancy and cloud infrastructure support.
